Akshay joined the Maryland Power Electronics Laboratory as a Ph.D. student in 2016. He earned his PhD in ELectrical Engineering in 2021. Prior to joining MPEL, Akshay completed his B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering and M.Tech. in Machine Drives and Power Electronics at IIT Kharagpur, India in 2016. As an undergraduate, Akshay has worked on PMSM drives for electric vehicles, and on grid-interfaced three-phase AC-DC converters for floating offshore wind turbines. His present research focus is on compact high-frequency circuits for three-phase AC-DC power conversion, with the specific application in More Electric Aircrafts.
Akshay is a big fan of Formula-1 racing and is an avid cyclist.
